MUAYTHAI KICKBOXING LEVELS


BEGINNER KICKBOXING:

This is where it starts. Duke Roufus Gym's BEGINNER KICKBOXING class is for everyone. In BEGINNER KICKBOXING, students learn the basic fundamentals of Muaythai kickboxing. This fun, fast paced and very safe class focuses on building a solid foundation emphasizing correct stances, movement and offers an introduction to Muaythai Kickboxing's explosive offensive power techniques.

BEGINNER KICKBOXING focuses on basic power with heavy emphasis on cardiovascular conditioning, use of heavybags and focus mitts. The main purpose of this class is to get you in the best shape of your life - while conditioning your body and building the core foundation and skills to take your ability to the next level! On average, students are in BEGINNER KICKBOXING for about 4 weeks.

Required equipment - Approved 16 oz. gloves and Handwraps.

LEVEL 1 KICKBOXING (Must Graduate Level 1 Test):

LEVEL 1 KICKBOXING is our most popular class, emphasizing defensive tactics and ring strategy incorporating advanced training drills and striking combinations. Once the student learns the basics in BEGINNER KICKBOXING, it's time to learn the science of combat.

LEVEL 1 KICKBOXING concentrates on teaching combative offensive and defensive drills, while placing special emphasis on countering tactics. LEVEL 1 KICKBOXING utilizes heavy pad training including: partner pairing drills, heavybag work and conditioning drills. There is no sparring in LEVEL 1 KICKBOXING.

Required equipment - DRG Uniform, Approved 16 oz. Boxing Gloves, Approved Shinguards and Handwraps.

LEVEL 2 KICKBOXING (Must Graduate Level 2 Test and have a minimum of 6 months training at DRG):

In LEVEL 2 KICKBOXING, emphasis is placed on more optional sparring and honing of one's sparring skills, while helping you reach your fitness goals. LEVEL 2 KICKBOXING offers the chance to "play the game" (sparring) in a fun, safe and controlled environment. Students master their sparring skills while getting an incredible workout at the same time.

Required equipment - DRG Uniform, Approved 16 oz. Boxing Gloves, Approved Shinguards, Handwraps, Mouthguard, Sparring Helmet and Groin Protector.

LEVEL 3 KICKBOXING (Must Graduate Level 3 Test and have a minimum of 1 year training at DRG):

LEVEL 3 KICKBOXING focuses on high level training toward getting into the ring. If you are looking to get in championship shape and improve your sparring skills, LEVEL 3 KICKBOXING is for you.

Students don't have to compete to be part of LEVEL 3 KICKBOXING, you just have to want to master the skills of Muaythai Kickboxing. LEVEL 3 KICKBOXING offers the chance to spar in exhibition bouts that are not scored, but give you the thrill of competition.

LEVEL 3 KICKBOXING incorporates optional running and fighter body conditioning drills, as well. Duke Roufus Gym also has a Competition Team for anyone looking to get into the ring. Students train the art of Thai grappling and knee sparring. Special emphasis is placed on Boxing training - especially offense, defense and sparring. DRG's amateur Kickboxing team has won 1 World Championship, 3 North American Championships, 19 US National Championships and numerous regional & state championships.

Required equipment - DRG Uniform, Approved 16 oz. Boxing Gloves, Approved Shinguards, Handwraps, Mouthguard, Sparring Helmet, Groin Protector and Jump Rope.

LEVEL 4 KICKBOXING (Must Graduate Level 4 Test and have a minimum of 2 years training at DRG):

LEVEL 4 KICKBOXING takes you to Thailand daily! This course focuses on learning extremely high level techniques and applications. One-on-one padwork is the staple of DRG's pro training in LEVEL 4 KICKBOXING.

Heavybag work supplements the training, in addition to a heavy concentration of offensive and defensive tactic drills. Roadwork (outdoor running) is a must for overall conditioning and stamina. DRG LEVEL 4 KICKBOXING has produced 4 Professional World Champions, 2 North American Champions and 3 US Champions.

Required equipment - DRG Uniform, Approved 16 oz. Boxing Gloves, Approved Shinguards, Handwraps, Mouthguard, Sparring Helmet, Groin Protector, Jump Rope, Running Shoes and DRG Warm-up Suit.
